People sometimes assume Ambitionist started with a factory and a line sheet. It started with a problem I couldn't solve in my own closet.
Where it began
Before Ambitionist, I built Fashion Ambitionist, a blog about living a stylish life while building a serious career. I held roles at some of the world's top fashion publications. I spent my days around the best clothes in the world, and every morning I reached for the same thing: a bodysuit.
It was the perfect base for everything. Tucked into tailored trousers for a meeting. Under a blazer. With jeans on the weekend. The problem was that I could never find one that was actually good. They twisted. They rode up. The fabric pilled after three washes. The snaps gave out. I spent countless hours hunting and always came up disappointed.
So I built it myself
There was no shortcut. I didn't license a design or buy an existing style. I built every piece from the ground up: the pattern, the fit, the fabric, the closure, the finish. For two years I worked on nothing but fit, sampling and re-sampling until each style sat exactly right on the body.
I made the choice early to manufacture entirely in the United States. Our Luxe Ribbed fabric is made from scratch in California. Our bodysuits are made in Los Angeles. Our jewelry is made in Rhode Island. Being close to production meant I could be hands on at every stage, and I still am.
The first collection
We launched with four timeless styles in two colorways. That was deliberate. I would rather make a few things perfectly than many things well enough. Every style since has gone through the same process, and nothing launches until it is right.
What Ambitionist is for
Every woman needs perfect elevated basics she can wear everywhere. Getting dressed should be easy. The clothes you build your day around should be comfortable, beautiful and made to last. That is the whole idea, and it is why I built this from nothing.
